JR's
Cellars - The past holds the future
|
|
The
new chateau at JR was completed in1995, and itself represents
the bridge from Austrian's wine heritage to its promising
future. The Roman ancestry is recalled in the columns and
arches of the cellars, which were constructed from 19th-cenrury
brick. The gravel flooring allows the area's high watertable
to naturally maintain humidity, protecting more than 500
oak barrels and ovals. The production facilities have been
constructed to accomondate the winery's growth without disturbing
attention to detail and quality for each of the 14 varietals
that make the wines of JR.
|
But
only grape stock of highest quality can be processed into superior
wine. The vineyards of the "Johanneshof" are therefore
cultivated in a conscientious and natural way. The grapes are
selected strictly in accordance with their potential and then
fermented to wine.
JR's
cellars remind visitors that some traditions endure because they
are
still the best - strong, classic arches criss-cross
over wine aging in oak barrels.
|
Full-bodied,
substantial red and white wines mature in barrique oak casks
and subsequently in large barrels. During this period of
stillness they further develop their harmony and density,
the typical characteristics of Johanneshof Reinisch wines.
The
best way to discover the style of the Reinisch wines is
to do it directly at the winery. In the presentation room
all wines are offered for tasting and during the "Heuriger"-period
in addition to the excellent wines suitable food is available
too - since JR also runs a "Heurigen"-restaurant,
an old tradition for all wine growers of the region.
